Fall Semester 2013 Is Underway!

Welcome back to Finding Your Voice with DJ Noni for the Fall 2013 Semester here at Penguin Radio the official radio station of Dominican University of California at radio.dominican.edu!

My show will continue to run Fridays, 2-4pm, and this semester I am glad to introduce two guest hosts, Riah Cole and DJ Mr. Todd, who will be joining me regularly in our aim to empower you to reach your highest potential.

Riah Cole will be sharing her segment Above Ground Bay Area which highlights young people who are doing inspiring things in the world and interesting Bay Area happenings that young people are spearheading and that they can get involved with.

DJ Mr. Todd will be sharing his segment It's A Man's World which will focus on men's emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental health along with a smattering of relationship advice and life wisdom.

I'll also have a few of our new DJs on the show for radio station practice and I will have my regular gratitude moment, angel messages, and power thought cards - it wouldn't be Finding Your Voice if I didn't have my regular uplifting messages!

Thanks as always for tuning in to Finding Your Voice with DJ Noni. If you want to send me a message, head over to my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Finding-Your-Voice-with-DJ-Noni/182679938505807?ref=hl

A conversation about the difference between envy and jealousy - some resources:

From a needs perspective, being in a state of envy, jealousy and resentment is the polar opposite of feeling safety, tranquility and equanimity. http://intentionalworkplace.com/2011/07/07/envy-jealousy-resentment-%E2%80%93-the-%E2%80%9Ccomparison%E2%80%9D-emotions-at-work/

According to Georgetown University psychologist W. Gerrod Parrott, Ph.D., envy occurs when a person lacks another person's superior quality, achievement, or possession, and desires it—or wishes that the other person lacked it. Jealousy, by contrast, occurs in the context of a close relationship when a person fears losing an important other to a rival—in particular, losing a relationship that is important to one's sense of self. From Psychology Today http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/199401/devastating-difference

Easy way to remember the difference between envy and jealousy: Envy is the emotion when you want something that someone else has. Jealousy is the emotion when you fear something you have or someone you are with have might be taken away from you.  http://www.diffen.com/difference/Envy_vs_Jealousy

“To cure jealousy is to see it for what it is: a dissatisfaction with self.” ~Joan Didion

"Balancing Emotions" will purge negative emotions in psyche and shape your innate behavior in a way to face every life challenge by avoiding pessimistic approach towards life; whilst you will be able to derive maximum life pleasure from whatever resources are available with you!

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes, there are times when I just need to turn off the television, my phone, my appointment book, etc., and check out. It isn't that I don't care, it is that I care so much that my system gets overwhelmed because I am not made to solve all the world's problems all by myself, right now. It is hard to turn it off, because I want to stay connected and informed, yet I also need to nurture my own soul so that when it does come time for me to take an action that I can take, that I am healthy and well rested, and well prepared, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and intellectually. This video by Amy Poehler, answering a young person's question about how to deal with the bombardment of images and stories, is a wise and thoughtful response to the feeling of image, news, and social media overwhelm. Many blessings to all of you and I am grateful for all I have and all that I can share.

Love, DJ Noni

Grateful to be able to be of service

I am grateful to have recently been part of a team of folks that traveled to Tijuana, Mexico, to build a home for a family in need. Our team and our family worked together to build an 11' x 22' wood and stucco home. Neighbors and friends also pitched in to help and as the sun radiated warmth, our work radiated love - we not only built a home, but also built relationships as well. Thank you listeners for your love and support to do good things in the world. Life? We can do this thing!

Take care everyone, and I hope YOU have opportunities to serve in your community and abroad. Talk to you soon, Fridays, 2-4pm, on Finding Your Voice with DJ Noni at radio.dominican.edu

Much love to all,
DJ Noni (that's me in the lower left corner)
