I have just returned from an emotional, physical, and
spiritual journey to Tijuana, Mexico, where I was part of a group of people
helping build homes for families along the Mexico/United States border.
I wish that this kind of service work
would not be needed, but the reality is that there are many families, not only
in Mexico, but also all over the world, living in substandard conditions – and
who cannot on their own afford to change their living circumstances.
Perhaps if
the world were organized differently there wouldn’t be a need to go out on
mission trips to help people in this way, but until that time I am committed to
helping families stay together by building safe, secure homes.
I am grateful to
be able to do this work and to encourage others to participate as well.
Thank
you to my family, friends, listeners, and supporters for encouraging me to live
a life of service.
In dedication to cross-cultural understanding and compassion toward one another, this week's Angel Message is: "Community Service" - Good deeds done for others.
Here
is a thought on community service from Fred Rogers, American Educator, Presbyterian Minister, and Television
Host of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood:
"At the center of the universe is a loving heart that continues to
beat and that wants the best for every person. Anything we can do to help
foster the intellect and spirit and emotional growth of our fellow human beings,
that is our job. Those of us who have this particular vision must continue
against all odds. Life is for service."
This week's Power Thought, inspired by http://www.self-help-and-self-development.com is:
When my intentions are clear, the Universe cooperates with me
and I can accomplish anything. I live in peace and harmony with nature, myself,
and my neighbors near and far. I am grateful for all I have, what I can share,
and all I am about to receive.
Food Sovereignty Movement:
The Principles of Food Sovereignty
Food is a basic human right.
The land belongs to those who work it.
Food sovereignty entails the sustainable care and use of natural resources.
Food is first and foremost a source of nutrition and only secondarily an item for trade.
A strictly enforced Code of Conduct for Multinational Corporations is needed.
Food must not be used as a weapon.
Smallholder farmers must have direct input into formulating agricultural policies at all levels.
Everyone has the right to honest, accurate information and open democratic decision-making free from all forms of discrimination.
